WASHINGTON—Silver Spring business owner Michael Pope has always been a student of history, so it was no surprise when he announced his debut as an author, releasing the first two installments of his four-part historical fiction thriller series, Lincoln’s Ghetto.
Perfect for enthusiasts of historical fiction and Civil War narratives, Lincoln’s Ghetto masterfully blends well-researched historical details with the current African-American experience. The series takes a fictional look into the intricacies of how the promises of the 16th U.S. president led to the current state of African Americans today.
“I see my books as a social tool for conversation amongst friends and acquaintances living the American experience,” explained the retired U.S. Air Force Public Affairs Superintendent and
U.S. Department of Homeland Security Public Affairs Multi-Media Producer. “My goal is to arm my readers with more information and context to help them better understand race relations and how greed for money can destroy our moral fiber.”
In Book 1 of the series, Lincoln’s Touch, Pope does just that by exploring the rich history of the Midwest and the legacy of President Abraham Lincoln. The story follows a father and his son Darnell as they navigate the South Side of Chicago while avoiding the mob and uncovering some gritty truths about the roots of America’s DNA.
Lincoln’s Son, Book 2, is scheduled for release this month and continues the saga while following Darnell and his growth since Book 1. The book introduces a new cast of characters whose lives are unknowingly tied by Lincoln’s legacy.
The rest of the series is due to hit the stands throughout the first quarter of 2024. For now, Lincoln’s Touch is available in paperback and Kindle on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other major booksellers.
